A&RPCC 120-5 beat Overbury 119 all out by 5 wickets

Alcester & Ragley enjoyed their return to the top tier in the Cotswold Hills League with a comprehensive victory over Overbury at Ragley Hall.

Overbury were put into bat on a pitch offering assistance to the bowlers and lost wickets at regular intervals, with Pearse(24) the only batsman to get past 20 for Overbury. All the Ragley bowlers were on form, with Matt Greenway bowling with great pace and control to finish with 3-23 from his 10 overs, and Marc Woolley bowling a great tight line to claim a superb 5-38. Overbury were all out for 119 using only 32 of their overs.

This left Ragley 58 overs to get to the 120 needed to win. They got off to a poor start when Gary Strain and Lewis Clark were out early on to the Overbury captain Paul Gillett, to leave the score at 17-2. This bought Shaun Quirke to the wicket and he decided that attack was the best form of defence, hitting Gillett for 14 from one over that helped turned the game in Ragley's favour. When he was out for 34, the score was 77-3. Two further quick wickets fell in two balls with the score at 78-5 to put a few nerves in the Ragley camp, but all-rounder Matt Greenway batted superbly, in an unbroken partnership of 42 with captain Ben Lee (19not out), to end on 34 not out and guide Ragley home with 31 overs to spare.
